Famous casino venue to close

There are many casinos which have featured in some of the biggest movies and TV shows but there is one that is often cited as being the most glamorous of them all. When it comes to casinos, Las Vegas is still viewed as the place to be and in the glorious heyday of Sin City, there was one casino that stood head and shoulders above the rest of them.

Not many places could match the Sahara for casino cool

When it came to casino cool, there was nothing to match the class and elegance of the Rat Pack and Frank, Dean, Sammy and all the lads could be found in the Sahara Casino. The casino even featured heavily in the original ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ movie, which introduced people all over the world to the charm and style of the casino world. It also regularly played host to some of the biggest names in the entertainment world with The Beatles, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Mae West and Elizabeth Taylor all being regular guests during the greatest casino era.

However, even though times are hard in the modern era, the Sahara Casino has often struggled throughout the years. The casino has been through a number of hands with many owners having genuine dreams and ambitions about reviving the fortunes of one of the most famous names in the world of gaming and gambling.

A place overlooking The Strip ensured its place in gambling history

The Sahara casino is found at the Northern end of Las Vegas Boulevard, which ran for four miles and is commonly referred to as the Strip, but of course, the strip is now heavily populated with eye catching and people pleasing casinos, making it harder for casinos to compete unless they had something special to offer to gamers.

The closure of the casino is set to cause the loss of 1,000 jobs, which is obviously a very real down point of the situation and a very sad element of the closure.

There will no doubt be many people wishing that they had taken the opportunity to make that trip to the Sahara before it was too late but there are no plans for the building to be demolished. This means that the Sahara Casino is likely to remain towering over the Strip, bringing to mind many great memories of the time that casinos ruled the world and had every top class celebrity in the world flocking to be seen in the only place that mattered.
